“My time at KISS wasn't what I thought it would be. It was so much more. I made so many new friends. Friends that I know I’ll keep a whole lifetime. I learned, I grew up, I expanded. My world got so much bigger.” - Kitty Song Covey
As a huge fan of Netflix’s “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” film trilogy, I couldn’t resist checking out the spinoff series “XO Kitty,” which follows Lara Jean’s youngest sister, Kitty Covey.
In “XO Kitty,” she enrolls at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS) to be closer to her longtime boyfriend in South Korea. She expects a romantic reunion—but what she gets instead is a wake-up call. From heartbreak to navigating a new culture and social scene, Kitty quickly learns that love, identity, and fitting in are more complicated than she thought.
The series shines not only because of Kitty’s chaotic charm but also thanks to a lovable supporting cast. Dae, Kitty’s sweet but emotionally guarded first love, is charming but struggles to express how he truly feels. Min-ho oozes confidence and sarcasm, pretending he's too cool to care—but we all know he does. And then there’s Q, Kitty’s best friend, whose sharp wit and spot-on reactions make him both hilarious and incredibly relatable. He's the kind of friend who always catches on first—and isn’t afraid to say it out loud.
XO, Kitty is a lighthearted rom-com that blends American teen drama with classic Korean drama flair. It’s packed with tropes we love—love triangles, fake dating, love-at-first-sight, and enemies-to-lovers—and somehow makes them feel fresh again. The series leans heavily into teenage romance and self-discovery, with plenty of heart and humor to keep things moving.
Fans of the original trilogy will enjoy a few nostalgic surprises, including special appearances by Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) and Margot (Janel Parrish). There are even some subtle parallels between Lara Jean’s relationship with Peter Kavinsky and Kitty’s own romantic journey.
While it may not quite reach the iconic status of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”, “XO Kitty” is a fun, feel-good series that’s worth the binge. The second season is better than the first season so if you haven’t watched it yet, you’re missing out.
P.S. The K-pop soundtrack is good so don’t be surprised if a few songs sneak into your playlist.
