"Wonder Woman 1984" Review

Aside from Superman, Wonder Woman is my favorite superhero from the DC Universe. I admire her strength, morality, and persistence in doing the right thing. I’ve rewatched the first movie a couple of times and felt empowerment every single time.

Naturally, I was ecstatic when the second movie, “1984”, was released on Christmas day. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed as the movie lacked the action, charm, and female empowerment of its prequel. The movie was predictable as you knew who the villains were from the start, and it’s lengthy to the point where you may be tempted to fall asleep due to all of the dull moments.

For the movie’s plot, Diana Prince has to battle Maxwell Lord and the Cheetah (a villain from the comics and cartoons) as they aim to take over the world with “desirable wishes” that only cause havoc and destruction. Diana’s power becomes weaker, and she struggles to fight against individuals she would normally take out in an instance.

Also, some discrepancies from the prequel may have gone over the movie creator's head. For instance, in the first movie, it is shown that the lead warrior of the Amazons was secretly training the young Diana Prince as her mother disapproved. In “1984”, a young Diana participates in a public Gladiator tournament, which wouldn’t make any sense as her mother didn’t grant her approval until she was a teenager.

Overall, “1984” was another flop from the DC Universe movie franchise. The trailer made it look better than it actually was, and it doesn’t even compare to the first movie. However, if you watch it with low expectations, you may like it.

As always, here’s the official trailer for the movie and let me know in the comments or contact form below if you watch it or have any movie recommendations:
