"The system will always make you give up a part of yourself to succeed."
If you're a fan of Jordan Peele's unique brand of suspenseful movies that address issues of racism and identity, you're in for a treat with The Other Black Girl. This Hulu series, while sharing the same eerie vibe and racist undertones as Get Out and Us, brings its own distinct narrative and characters to the table.
Step into the cutthroat world of corporate America with Nella, an editorial assistant who's the sole black person in an all-white company. As another black woman named Hazel joins the company, this hopeful turn of events quickly leads to a life-altering unraveling for Nella.
As tensions rise, Nella discovers a dark underbelly in her workplace—a clandestine, brainwashing organization promising success and power to black women. The organization can offer everything Nella desires, but at what cost?
Prepare to be captivated by a stellar cast featuring renowned actresses such as Ashleigh Murray from Riverdale, Bellamy Young from Scandal, and Garcelle Beauvais from The Jamie Foxx Show. Their performances are incredible, making this ten-episode series a must-watch.
Adapted from Zakiya Dalila Harris's bestselling novel, The Other Black Girl is a rollercoaster of chilling suspense and unexpected twists to keep you on the edge of your seat. It fearlessly tackles the issues of racism and microaggressions in the workplace, leaving you to question the actual price of success and sacrifice.
This review is short; I can only reveal a little without spoiling it. I recommend not watching the trailer, as it shows too much. However, it is linked below if you want to see a few seconds of it.
