Never Have I Ever Review

“Even when things don’t work out, they usually do work out as long as you don’t give up.”

The final season of the Netflix series “Never Have I Ever” premiered in June and it is bittersweet to see the show end.

The series is about Devi, an Indian-American teenager who strives for popularity after her father’s death, but numerous obstacles stand in her way.

Devi is a very outspoken teenager who excels in academics but makes reckless decisions in her social life that gets her in trouble with family and friends. Fabiola and Eleanor are her two best friends who attempt to be there for Devi but are dealing with their issues on the side.

Ben is Devi’s rival who excels academically for success and achievement to deal with his absent parents. Paxton is a popular jock with a sweetheart who cares about other people but worries about his reputation slightly more.

“Never Have I Ever” is similar to “Awkward” and “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” where a socially awkward nerd meets a sensitive popular jock.

However, the show stands out because it sheds light on Indian culture and the pressure that Indian Americans may face in America. Also, different people narrate each episode depending on the character’s storyline. For example, John McEnroe narrates the episodes for Devi, and Gigi Hadid is the narrator for Paxton.

In addition, “Never Have I Ever” showcases different ways grief can impact people and how individuals can bounce back from terrible mistakes. So if you’re looking for a teen series with comedy and heart-melting moments that simultaneously may provide nostalgia, I suggest you stream the four seasons on Netflix.

Spoiler Warning: My Thoughts on the Final Season:

Devi and the other characters have developed a lot over the seasons. Devi is trying to make a good impression with Princeton this season and working hard to get into her dream college. She and her mother also have a better relationship than in the previous seasons. Paxton is figuring out his identity and what he wants to do. Although I was rooting for Paxton and Devi to end up together, I’m not upset with the outcome of Devi & Ben being endgame, especially since they’re living closer to each other and have similar personalities. It is nice that this show has a happy ending, and I want to see a spin-off about college life. It is relatable to everyone and even has excellent advice and moments. I am going to miss this show and the antics of Devi Vishkumar.

P.S. What happened to Ethan? He disappeared entirely from the show after Devi ruthlessly broke up with him. I expected to see some awkward moments between them or even closure, but he is nowhere to be found after the fifth episode. In the first few episodes, he was a crucial character, so seeing him completely gone is slightly weird.
