"Money Heist" Review

"Money Heist" (or "La Casa De Papel" in Spanish) is the most-watched series in a foreign language on Netflix. It has received many awards and inspired real-life protests and robberies globally.

It is a five-part series about a group of criminals that break into the Royal Mint of Spain bank to print their own money and hold 67 hostages. Following the strategies of a criminal mastermind, this group has considered everything for this heist.

Although they are going against the government, these criminals are not necessarily "bad guys" but are revolutionaries fighting against the system and rejecting modern capitalist society. This show challenges the concept of "good guys" and "bad guys" because you can't help but support and cheer for their endeavors' success.

Each character has a unique personality and background story that intertwines with drama, romance, action, and comedic moments. For example, the Professor is the criminal mastermind behind the heist, and with his critical thinking skills, he can come up with plans for worst-case scenarios.

Tokyo is the show's narrator, who happens to be extremely close to the Professor, so she works hard to keep everything in line, but sometimes her pride and ego overwhelm it. On the other hand, Nairobi is a level-headed and intelligent individual who will calm the group whenever chaos ensues.

Every time you think the robbers are backed into a corner, there's always something else that comes into play, so you never know what to expect. It's similar to a thriller where there are a lot of plot twists and enough action to keep you interested. The soundtrack also intensifies the cinematic moments of the show to where you may feel as if you are watching an extended version of a heist movie ("Ocean 12," for example).

So if you are looking for a series that has action, character development, and a core theme focused on resistance and rebellion, you should watch "Money Heist." I would suggest trying not to get too attached to the characters, though, as the creator did not care about killing off some of the main characters.
