What I Like About You Review

During the height of her career,  Amanda Bynes was one of the biggest child stars of the early 2000s, starring in projects like The Amanda Show and What A Girl Wants. However, many people forget that she also starred in the WB Sitcom “What I Like About You”, which aired on what is now known as the CW Network. In the series, she teams up with Jennie Garth from “Beverly Hills 90210”, and together they make a dynamic comedic duo.

The show follows two sisters learning how to live together after their father moves away to Japan. The older sister, Val (Jennie Garth), is very responsible, organized and often strict, but she always tries to guide her younger sister in the right direction. Holly (Amanda Bynes), is impulsive, adventurous, and constantly getting herself into unpredictable situations without fully thinking things through.

The supporting cast also adds a lot of charm to the show. Gary, Holly’s best friend, is both hilarious and protective. Tina, Holly’s other best friend, struggles with self esteem and occasionally flirts with Gary. Vince starts off as a charming player but eventually grows into a committed boyfriend for Holly. Meanwhile, Lauren, Val’s best friend, provides plenty of comedic relief with her insecurities and desperate attempts to find love.

The series also featured several memorable guest appearances from celebrities such as Tony Hawk, Jesse McCartney, Gavin DeGraw, JC Chasez of NSYNC, Jessica Szohr, and Danneel Harris.

When I was younger, I watched reruns of "What I Like About You" all the time. One of the most entertaining parts of the show was watching the relationship between the two sisters. They could go from arguing with each other one moment to hugging and making up the next, which made their bond feel realistic and relatable.

For years, I searched for a way to rewatch the series for nostalgic purposes, so I was excited when Netflix added all four seasons to its streaming platform this year. Watching it again felt almost exactly the same as I remembered, except for one noticeable change: the original theme song, What I Like About You, has been replaced with a different tune.

Overall, if you are looking for a sitcom with love triangles, comedic moments, and relationship drama, I would definitely recommend watching “What I Like About You”. It has a similar feel to shows like “Baby Daddy” and “How I Met Your Mother”. I will admit that the first few episodes can feel a little cheesy, but as the series progresses, both the writing and comedy improve significantly.
