The Summer I Turned Pretty Review

“There were times this summer when I felt like I didn’t know my own heart. But one thing I do know for sure, is that whatever happens next, I will always come back to this place and these people.”

Jenny Han, the author and creator of one of my favorite series, "To All The Boys I Loved Before," created another bestselling book series called "The Summer I Turned Pretty" that was adapted into a coming-of-age teen drama on Amazon Prime.

Belly and her family spend time at Cousins Beach at her mom's best friend, Susannah, house every summer. Susannah has two sons, Jeremiah and Conrad, who are the complete opposites of each other.

Jeremiah has an outgoing, bubbly personality but hides his feelings and emotions behind a smile. Conrad is more serious and tends to push people away out of fear of being too vulnerable.

Belly considers Jeremiah a friend, and she has a longtime crush on Conrad. One summer, everything changes when both brothers show a romantic interest in her, and a hidden family secret becomes known.

"The Summer I Turned Pretty" is a series that has romance, teenage angst, and funny moments. It combines all Wattpad fan fiction tropes, such as a best friend to lover, a crush becoming a reality, and a girl in a love triangle with two brothers.

Although it doesn't remotely compare to the hit supernatural series, "The Summer I Turned Pretty" does slightly remind me of the love triangle Elena had with the Salvatore brothers in "The Vampire Diaries."

The series is a must-watch if you love teen dramas and sweet romance. Plus, most of Taylor Swift's songs play in each episode and have impeccable timing for the scenes. If it's not Taylor Swift, the song selection is replaced with other great artists such as Ariana Grande, Tyler the Creator, Billie Eilish, etc.

Below, I briefly express my thoughts on season two but you should stop reading here if you don't like spoilers. My Thoughts On Season Two

I am thrilled that Belly chose Jeremiah! They are super cute together and have more chemistry than she does with Conrad. Their personalities match better as they are both goofy and spontaneous. Steven and Taylor are in a relationship I wasn't expecting, but they are also a cute couple with a lot of banter. I do feel bad for Conrad as he had to watch Belly kiss Jeremiah, but at the end of the day, he lost his chance. I can't wait for season three to come out to know what will happen next with Belly and Jeremiah. I heard the show follows the book series so I plan on reading the books before the new season.
